Newsletter for the week of March 25

Memory work: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.  Luke 11:9

March 25, 2019

Dear Parents,
Welcome back from spring break.  I hope that you were able to enjoy some special time with your children during the week off.
We learned that Ella’s baby sister arrived this past Saturday.  She is having a few issues, so we are not sure when she will be coming home.  Congratulations, Ella!
My spring break started with our family’s trip to Florida.  On Tuesday morning, I received the word that my 97 year old father had been called to his heavenly home, so we all headed to Philadelphia for his funeral.   Dad, was the best father anyone could ask for.  He was such a strong Christian man who loved his Savior and shared that love so freely with his three children.  Dad was married to our mom for 45 years.  She passed away and ten years later he married Dottie who was an amazing wife and care-giver for him,  At the end, he lost his fight against a septic infection.  The end came quickly for him.  His suffering is over and he now rejoices in that heavenly home.  (And- while in Philly, I spent 4 days in bed with a nasty virus- not flu A but nasty!!)  I am planning to be back in the classroom on Wednesday.  Thanks to Mrs.Klug and to Mrs.Sanft for covering the afternoons for me.
Hopefully, you read over the third quarter report card. Once again, you may keep all of the papers that came home in the big envelope and the report card from the small brown envelope. Just return the big envelope and the signed report card envelope. Please let us know if you would like to have a conference with us.
This Thursday is our second annual CCLS family literacy night for our elementary families with a superhero theme.  The night will begin with a “mystery reader” and then the teachers will be hosting a variety of activities in their classrooms. Feel free to stay as long as you wish.  The evening begins at 6:00 and concludes at 7:30.  Please RSVP  to the email so that we know how many to expect. A fun part of this event is the book exchange.  Please bring any books that you are finished reading into Mrs. Callison on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  She will give you tickets that you can use to “purchase” books on literacy night.  Please consider joining us for this family event.
This Friday we are very excited that Will’s Mom will be coming in to teach us an art project (she is an art teacher at The Rossman School).  She is also returning from Uganda this week with our team.  I am sure that she will have lots of stories to share while she is working with us.
On Wednesday, May 8th, our class will be presenting the chapel service at 8:30.  Then at 9:30 we will have our annual author party where the children will share with you what they have written throughout the year.  Each child needs to have a guest at the author event with whom they can share.  Please mark your calendar and plan to join us on that day.
The new salmon-colored sheet for church and Sunday school attendance came home last week along with a new service project form.  Please record your child’s attendance and return it to me during the last week of the quarter. The service project sheet may come back to me as soon as your child has completed the project.  Thanks so much!
Have a great week!  Spring has certainly sprung!!
Yours in Him,
Janet Leet

Newsletter for the week of March 11th

Memory work:
The Lord is good to all, and His Mercy is over all that He has made.  Psalm 145:9

March 11, 2019

Dear Parents,
Happy spring? The temperatures are starting to warm and tease us that spring should be right around the corner. The children raised more than $250 to support our students in Uganda!  Thanks for your hard work, everyone.
The second graders are becoming more and more comfortable with subtracting and regrouping.  Please keep practicing those subtraction math facts at home.  Have you used those flash cards yet?  This week we are moving on to the minus 9 facts and those flash cards will come home soon. Thanks for reminding your child to complete his/her homework each night and to return it each day.
We are moving on to learning the upper case letters in cursive.  Many of the children are becoming more and more comfortable with this new way of writing. Practicing the new letters at home would be a great idea.
This week we are hoping to finish up our solids, liquids and gases unit.  After spring break, we will work on some social studies activities before our last unit of science.
If you would like to order any books from the book order, please do so by  tomorrow.  I will submit the order that afternoon.  I am happy to hold any book orders for gifts.  Just let me know.
The new Terrific Tuesday class information will be emailed to you today.  The last six week session will begin on Tuesday, March 26th.
The third quarter report cards will be coming home this Friday.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.  Mrs. Klug and I would be happy to set up a time to meet with you if you wish.  Just give us a few dates and times that would work for you and we will schedule a time.
Spring break begins at the end of this week.  (Just in case you had forgotten.J).My plans include visiting a dear friend in Florida with my St. Louis daughter and her family. In the middle of the week, I will fly to Lexington, Kentucky to visit with the twin 5 year old grandchildren and their parents. So, lots of Grammy time for me!  I hope you will be able to enjoy your change in schedule for the week.  Enjoy your children!  They are such a special gift from God to you.
Have a wonderful week!  God-willing, we will be back together on the 25th of March.
Yours in Christ,
Janet Leet

Newsletter for the week of March 4th

Memory work:
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.  Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.  Matthew 5: 7,9

March 4, 2019

Dear Parents,
This week we begin the church season of Lent.  At our chapel service this Wednesday, the students will have the opportunity to receive ashes.  Parents are invited  to join us for chapel.  All of our CCLS congregations have services on Wednesdays during Lent.  Here at Webster Gardens, the services are at 3:45 and 6:30.  There is a Lenten meal served between the two services.  During Lent, we will have inside pick up at the end of the day on Wednesdays, because the parking lot becomes very busy.
Thanks to Ben, Alli, Mitchell and William for representing CCLS at the LHSS Scholar Bowl this weekend. They all did a great job.
This is the last week of the third quarter. (Unbelievably!!)  That means that several things need to be turned in this week.  All service project sheets should be turned in this week.  Also, please send in your church and Sunday School attendance sheet for this quarter.  The report cards will come home to you on Friday, March 15th.
Friday, March 8th, is a Casual for a Cause Day. The elementary students are asked to bring toothpaste, sharpened pencils and pencil sharpeners (without the container to catch the shavings) for Mrs. Killian and the mission team to take on their upcoming trip to Uganda.  An email was sent last Friday with the list of items that are needed. Dr. Killian will be purchasing medications once the team arrives in Africa, so cash donations are welcome as well.  (suggested amounts of $2.00 or more)
The March book orders are due back on or before next Monday, March 11th.  You may order the books on line at www.scholastic.com/parentordering.  Let me know if you would like for me to keep any of the books aside for gifts.
 God’s blessings on your week!
Yours in Christ,
Janet Leet
