(No memory work)

Dear Parents,
Here we are at the end of the school year.  It has been an awesome year.  The children have come together as a wonderful group of friends, always willing to help one another.  My prayers are with each of them as they move on to third grade.
This is going to be a very busy week!  We have lots of loose ends to tie up and there are a few things that may not be finished.  If only we had a few more weeks??!!!
On Thursday we will be doing some serious cleaning!  Your child may want to bring along an extra bag for carrying home all of the supplies, etc. The big brown envelope is coming home on Friday. Be sure to check through it. If your child earned a Six Flags ticket, that will be in there.  There will be a summer activity calendar.  The math tests for the fourth quarter are also in there.  There are a few pages in the handwriting book that we did not finish.  Please encourage your child to practice cursive writing over the summer and to complete the handwriting book pages. What a lot of things to see!
Remember that we dismiss at 11:00 on Friday. There is NO after school care on Friday, so everyone will need to be picked up at that time. The used uniform sale will open at 7:55 Friday morning. We will have an all-school chapel service at 8:30 Friday morning here at Webster.  You are welcome to join us. Our school picnic begins immediately following school dismissal.  It will be at Kirkwood Park beginning at 11:30.  Please RSVP so we have a head count.  Feel free to bring your own lunch or to order a box lunch.  Hope to see you there!
The last report card will be released online in the afternoon on May 31st and will be mailed home the following week. Speaking of report cards, please send in your child’s church and Sunday School attendance form tomorrow if you did not send it in today.  Also, remember to send in the service project form for the fourth quarter. Thank you so much!
Eighth grade graduation will be held this Thursday night at 7:00 at Concordia, Kirkwood.  It is always a wonderful evening of celebration.  You are invited to join us.
On Friday, I will ask the children for their thoughts about second grade and if there is anything (within reason) that they would like to change.  I would like to give you the same opportunity.  Please feel free to jot me a note about this year, especially if there is something that you would like to see done differently.  Mrs. Klug and I are always open to your comments. I have thoroughly enjoyed my partnership with Mrs. Klug this year.  She has encouraged and pushed your children to do their best in their writing and language arts.
Thank you for all of your prayers of love and support during this school year. I hope that all of you have a relaxing and refreshing summer.  I will be spending my summer ordering materials for school, going through files at school and at home, and working with the administrative team to assure a smooth beginning in the fall. In July, I will be serving as a Community Life Builder at the LCMS National Youth Gathering.  It is an amazing event with close to 30,000 youth growing in their faith over the five days in Minneapolis.  Then, I will travel to Camp Arcadia, Michigan, to spend some time with my daughter and her family and Mrs. Klug and her family.  It will be so much fun!
My prayers for you are that God grants you a safe and restful summer. Be sure to remind your child to read every day, write some stories or keep a daily journal, and to practice math facts. All of these things will help the transition to third grade to be a smooth one.

In His Name,
Janet Leet

Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them... and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19,20

Dear Parents,
Our prayers continue to be with Mrs. Ladd and her family.  Mrs. Ladd’s mother passed away last Tuesday.  The funeral will be Wednesday morning at 11:00 at Webster Gardens.  Carole was a huge blessing to our CCLS family, always willing to help and serve in any way needed.  She will be truly missed.
Thank you for joining us last week for our chapel service and author celebration.  It is amazing to see how much these student authors have grown over the year.  Also, thank you for all of the special teacher appreciation gifts. Mrs. Klug and I love working with your children each and every day!
We are looking forward to our field trip to the Botanical Gardens next Monday, May 20th. Thanks to all of the adults who have signed up to go with us.  We could always use more help. (Adults may enter free with a Gardens’ membership or pay $6.00 (cash please) to Mrs. Leet for the admission fee.) The schedule for that day is to leave CCLS at 9:00, take a class from 9:30-11:30, and then have a little free time in the gardens. Around 12:00, we will get on the bus and head to Tilles Park in Brentwood for lunch and some play time.  The students are to bring a lunch and one or two drinks.  Lunchboxes are fine. If your child wants a school sack lunch, please let me know that ASAP so that I can place the order.  Normal lunch prices will apply. Also, let me know if you will be able to join us for all or part of this trip. The students will learn a lot about how we get our food, planning a garden and then they will tour the home garden center to see lots of different food plants growing.  The Missouri Botanical Gardens is a wonderful place for a family field trip.  Wednesday mornings and Saturday mornings are free mornings to residents of St. Louis City and county, so take advantage of this wonderful gem in our city.
We have less than two weeks of second grade left!  This is such an exciting time with lots of special activities!  This Friday is our annual field day.  Mrs. Knost and her helpers always do a wonderful job of making sure that we have tons of fun.  So far, the weather looks like it will cooperate.  Mrs. Knost always can use some extra parent hands for the activities. Just send her an e-mail if you are available (nknost@ccls-stlouis.org). Each child needs to wear the color t-shirt noted in the email from her. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s have very inexpensive shirts if you need one.  It is OK if the shirts have writing on them.  Remember to send in sunscreen and be sure that your child is wearing gym shoes. A change of clothing (including shoes and socks) might be helpful as there are some water games, too! We will finish the day with vanilla Ted Drewes frozen custard.  Each child is asked to bring $1.00 to help with the cost of this treat. Also, Friday is the day for the author celebration pizza lunch.
On the last day of school we will dismiss at 11:00.  Beginning at 11:30, we will have our last day of school picnic at Kirkwood Park. You are welcome to order a box lunch or to bring your own picnic lunch.  To RSVP, go to the Charger and click on the picnic RSVP. Please RSVP even if you are not ordering a lunch, so that we know how many people to expect.
This week we will continue to do science, math and handwriting activities.  There will probably be a few pages left in the handwriting book that your child can work on over the summer on one of those rainy, “I don’t have anything to do”, days.
Remember to turn in your Fourth Quarter service project sheets as soon as possible.  Also, please send back the church and Sunday school attendance form next Monday so that I can start to enter those numbers on the report cards.
Speaking of report cards, they will be released online during the first week of June. The hard copies will be sent to you early in June as well.
Thanks for reading this note.  Keep smiling!  We only have 9 more school days after today.
Yours in His Ministry,
Janet Leet

Memory work:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  2 (second) Corinthians 5:17

Dear Parents,
Here we are with three weeks to go. Our prayers are with Mrs. Ladd and her family.  Her mother, Carole Spree, is in hospice care here in St. Louis.  Marcia and her siblings are taking turns caring for Carole.  I know it is a difficult time for all of them. We pray for a peaceful transition into heaven for her.
If you have not sent in or emailed a favorite recipe, please do so today.  This is for a special Mother’s Day gift.
Tomorrow is our last day to check out library books.  All books are due back on or before next Tuesday, the 14th.  Please watch for the overdue notes and look for those missing books.
Remember that we are presenting chapel this Wednesday, May 8th. Chapel will begin at 8:30. If your child is a narrator, please remind her/him to read through their parts several times tonight and tomorrow night.  Immediately following our chapel service, we will move to Friendship Hall, behind the sanctuary for our author celebration.  It is important that each second grader  have a special guest there so that they can share their writing pieces. . We should be finished around 10:30.
This Friday is a busy day.  In the morning we will have an author visit from Katherine Applegate.  She is a very well-known children’s author.  You may still place an order for her books.  Then in the afternoon we will shop at the third grade marketplace. Each student will be given $2 in play money that they can use to purchase items from the third grade stored.  This is a culminating activity to their economics unit. It will be a fun experience!
Last call for any book orders! I will be sending in the book orders first thing Tuesday morning.  Please submit any online orders this evening or send paper orders to me on Tuesday.
The end of this school year is three weeks away.  It is now time for your child to complete the service project form and bring it back to school.  The Church and Sunday School attendance form should come back in the week of May 20th.
Monday, May 20th, is our trip to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.  We will be gone over lunch time, so be sure to send a lunch and a couple of drinks.  The lunches may be in normal lunchboxes for this trip.  We will leave school at 9:00.  Our class is from 9:30 until 11:30.  We will leave the Gardens around 12:15 and head to Tilles Park (weather permitting).  If it is a rainy day, we will eat our lunches in a room at the Gardens and then head back to school.  If we go to the park, we will stay there until 1:30ish and then head back to school.  If your child would like a school sack lunch, please let me know by Friday.  Your normal lunch charge will apply.  Please let me know if you would be able to join us for all or part of the trip. If you are a member of the Botanical Gardens, your admission is free.  Otherwise, the adult chaperone cost is $6.00. Anyone needing to pay that can give that money (cash, please) to me on the day of the trip.
Our end of the year school picnic will be on the last day of school at Kirkwood Park beginning at 11:30. Soon you will receive an email about the event. You may order a box lunch or bring your own lunch. Please RSVP so that we know how many to expect. We have the big pavilion reserved, so it is a rain or shine event.  There will be face painting and a balloon artist to entertain the children, as well as all of the playground activities.
If your child earned a ticket in the Six Flags reading program, the tickets will be in envelopes in the last day of school brown envelope. Be sure to keep the ticket in a safe place as it is not replaceable.
Have a great week.  Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers and aunts!

Yours in His Ministry,
Janet Leet
