Newsletter for the week of August 20, 2018

August 20, 2018

Memory verse for the week:
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  Isaiah 41:10

Dear Parents,
Our first three days last week were very busy learning lots of routines and procedures.  The students did a great job of listening and following directions. We are now ready to settle into more normal routines.
This is the first of the weekly Monday notes.  I am sending home a paper note today. I will post the letter on my blog and e-mail the link to you today.  Please let me know if you do not receive the e-mail and I will check the address. Also, if you would like the link sent to a different e-mail address, please let me know. Starting next week, our newsletters will only be posted to our blogs with the links sent to you by e-mail (unless you request a paper copy).  Thanks for taking the time to read the notes each week.
This is the first week that we will record church and Sunday school attendance.  At the home visit you received a form to keep track at home as well. That form should be returned to school at the end of the quarter.  Family worship is a very important part of your child’s education.
This week we will start having a memory work assignment.  The memory verse for the week will be in the planner and also with this newsletter.  This week’s verse is our theme verse.  We have been learning some motions to go with it as a help.  The students may choose to say it with or without the motions. Friday is memory work day, so the children will be asked to say their memory verse to me following our lunch recess on Friday.
On Wednesday, we will work on our summer posters.  If your child has not brought in the items (pictures, brochures, ticket stubs, etc.) to make his or her poster, please send those in on or before Wednesday. We will be making the posters Wednesday afternoon.
The students look so great in their school uniforms.  Remember that on all Fridays the students may wear other CCLS shirts (as in CCLS t-shirts). The bottoms need to still be within the dress code guidelines.
Attendance and lunch counts are being done with our school management system.  We are using the Cornerstone school management for lunch and milk charges.  Your child’s lunch charges will be put into your TADS account.  You will receive notification about when the charges will be sent to your bank account.  We are a federally subsidized lunch program so please feel free to complete the free and reduced lunch forms (located on the CCLS website) if you think that you might qualify.  The guidelines are posted there as well.
Speaking of food, the children may bring a healthy, non-peanut or tree nut morning snack to school that they will eat at morning break time. They are also welcome to bring a water bottle each day.  Please be sure that it has a top that can be closed to prevent it from spilling.
The book order forms are coming home this week. If you wish to order any books, you may either send the order to me with a check made out to Scholastic Books.  Or you may place your order online and use a credit card for payment.  Either way our class receives credit and we are able to order books for our classroom library.  If you would ever want me to hold your books and not give them to your child, just let me know.  All book orders should be turned in to me or placed on line by Wednesday, September 5th.
Be sure to ask to see your child’s student planner each evening. I will check it before your child leaves to be sure that the assignments are written correctly. I was very impressed that everyone remembered to turn in their math homework last week. This week the students will continue bringing home a math homework sheet and soon a math fact sheet.  Please have your child do this practice fact sheet at home.  The lesson sheet should come back to school each day with the homework side completed, but the fact sheet does not need to be turned in to me as homework.
We worked together as a class to develop our school rules.  Here is our list:
ðBe respectful.
ðBe responsible.
ðBe kind.
ðDo your best.
These expectations will help us as we strive to show
respect for others and for our school.

HERE IS AN IMPORTANT DATE TO PUT ON YOUR CALENDAR. Tuesday, August 28th, is our Elementary Curriculum night.    After a brief whole-group time, you will be invited to visit your child’s (children’s) classroom(s) to hear from the teachers.  This is an adult only night for you to see what your child does during the day.
Thanks for reading this letter.  Please let me know if there are any problems or concerns.  Have a great week!

Yours in His ministry,
Janet Leet

P.S.  A few people still need to bring in their emergency bags of food.  Thanks for taking care of this ASAP.
