Memory work: (This may be said in two parts,
this Friday and next Friday or all together this week.)
The Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God the
Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son,
our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary;
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended
into hell. The third day he rose again
from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits at the right
hand of God the Father almighty. From
thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy
Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.

Dear Parents,
Happy
Valentine’s Day week. This is always a
fun week for our second graders!
Remember that if you want to send candy grams, the forms and dollars are
due tomorrow.
Thanks to all of the parents who have planned
and are helping with our Valentine’s Day party this Thursday. It promises to be
a fun day! The students should bring their valentine cards to school on
Thursday. We made bags for our cards in
art last week, so we are ready to go.
This Friday, we will have another author visit courtesy of The Novel Neighbor in Webster. (If you have not visited this book store, plan to do so. It is a wonderful local store!). Mike Wahnoutka is the author and illustrator of more than 20 children books. We are excited to hear him share with us about his career.

This week in math, we
will continue working on subtracting two-digit numbers. This is always a challenge for second
graders. We continue to say our little rhyme to help us know when to regroup.
(More on the top, no need to stop. More
on the floor, go next door. Get ten more.
Number’s the same. Zero’s the
game.) This is where knowing those
subtraction facts really becomes important. Please take a few moments to look
over your child’s homework each night. You can help catch any errors and take
the time to explain them to your child. I will continue to send home more
subtraction flash cards for you to use at home.
They are yours to keep and to use. A family game of concentration can be
so much fun! Practice makes perfect!
We are continuing to
learn our lower case letters in cursive writing. The handwriting papers are
really lovely. We are saving them at
school to make a book.
Last call for any
Scholastic book orders. I will submit
the order tomorrow morning.
Remember that the
students do not have school next Monday, the 18th, due to the
President’s Day holiday. The teachers will work on some professional
development in the morning. Then, in the
afternoon, the teachers will be on campus for the optional parent-teacher
conferences. A conference request form
is coming home today. Please send it
back tomorrow if you would like a conference.
If Monday afternoon does not work for you, we will happily find another
day and time that will work.
Thanks for reading!
Have a great week! Hope to see you all at the auction on Saturday.
Yours in Christ,
Janet Leet
