Memory work:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.  The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.  2 (second) Corinthians 5:17

Dear Parents,
Here we are with three weeks to go. Our prayers are with Mrs. Ladd and her family.  Her mother, Carole Spree, is in hospice care here in St. Louis.  Marcia and her siblings are taking turns caring for Carole.  I know it is a difficult time for all of them. We pray for a peaceful transition into heaven for her.
If you have not sent in or emailed a favorite recipe, please do so today.  This is for a special Mother’s Day gift.
Tomorrow is our last day to check out library books.  All books are due back on or before next Tuesday, the 14th.  Please watch for the overdue notes and look for those missing books.
Remember that we are presenting chapel this Wednesday, May 8th. Chapel will begin at 8:30. If your child is a narrator, please remind her/him to read through their parts several times tonight and tomorrow night.  Immediately following our chapel service, we will move to Friendship Hall, behind the sanctuary for our author celebration.  It is important that each second grader  have a special guest there so that they can share their writing pieces. . We should be finished around 10:30.
This Friday is a busy day.  In the morning we will have an author visit from Katherine Applegate.  She is a very well-known children’s author.  You may still place an order for her books.  Then in the afternoon we will shop at the third grade marketplace. Each student will be given $2 in play money that they can use to purchase items from the third grade stored.  This is a culminating activity to their economics unit. It will be a fun experience!
Last call for any book orders! I will be sending in the book orders first thing Tuesday morning.  Please submit any online orders this evening or send paper orders to me on Tuesday.
The end of this school year is three weeks away.  It is now time for your child to complete the service project form and bring it back to school.  The Church and Sunday School attendance form should come back in the week of May 20th.
Monday, May 20th, is our trip to the Missouri Botanical Gardens.  We will be gone over lunch time, so be sure to send a lunch and a couple of drinks.  The lunches may be in normal lunchboxes for this trip.  We will leave school at 9:00.  Our class is from 9:30 until 11:30.  We will leave the Gardens around 12:15 and head to Tilles Park (weather permitting).  If it is a rainy day, we will eat our lunches in a room at the Gardens and then head back to school.  If we go to the park, we will stay there until 1:30ish and then head back to school.  If your child would like a school sack lunch, please let me know by Friday.  Your normal lunch charge will apply.  Please let me know if you would be able to join us for all or part of the trip. If you are a member of the Botanical Gardens, your admission is free.  Otherwise, the adult chaperone cost is $6.00. Anyone needing to pay that can give that money (cash, please) to me on the day of the trip.
Our end of the year school picnic will be on the last day of school at Kirkwood Park beginning at 11:30. Soon you will receive an email about the event. You may order a box lunch or bring your own lunch. Please RSVP so that we know how many to expect. We have the big pavilion reserved, so it is a rain or shine event.  There will be face painting and a balloon artist to entertain the children, as well as all of the playground activities.
If your child earned a ticket in the Six Flags reading program, the tickets will be in envelopes in the last day of school brown envelope. Be sure to keep the ticket in a safe place as it is not replaceable.
Have a great week.  Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers and aunts!

Yours in His Ministry,
Janet Leet
