Newsletter for the week of October 1st

First Commandment:   You shall have no other Gods.
Second Commandment:  You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.

October 1, 2018

Dear Parents,
Happy fall!  It was a wonderful weekend for the carnival.  Thank you for supporting this event for our school community.
This week for our memory work, we will begin learning the Ten Commandments.  When the children say the commandments, they should also say which commandment it is (i.e., “First Commandment:  You shall have no other Gods.)
Terrific Tuesday classes start tomorrow!  The classes conclude at 4:30. If your child will be participating in a Terrific Tuesday class, he/ she should be picked up promptly at 4:30 or he/she may use Kid Kare until pick-up. An email was sent with the door code for Terrific Tuesday participants.  Have fun!
In math, we have been working on solving problems with missing addends.  Specifically, we have been working on combinations that equal 8, 9, and 10.  Watch for the bags of fact cards that are coming home.  Please encourage your child to practice with these cards until he/she has mastered them.
In science we will continue our study of Pebbles, Sand and Silt with the in depth study of River Rocks. The children are really enjoying learning so much about rocks! This week we will be sorting rocks in several ways.
This would be a good time to check with your child about school supplies.  Many of the children seem to have exhausted that initial supply of pencils and need to bring some new ones.  The glue sticks are running low, too.  Please check with your child regarding any needed supplies.
New book orders are coming home today.  They are due on or before Friday, October 12th. You may order the books on line by going to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs  and follow the cues to order your books. Our class activation code is GL4JP and then you can select your own password and username.
Next Friday, October 12th, is the end of the first quarter!  That means that all Service Project forms are due next week as well as the Church and Sunday School attendance form.
Thanks for reading.  Have a great week!

Yours in Christ,
Janet Leet

PS  Next Monday is Mrs. Sanft’s (our teacher assistant) birthday.  We thought it would be fun to put together a snack basket for her.  If you would like to send in an extra snack for her to enjoy during her busy days, we will add it to the basket.  Thank you.

*WHAT TO LOOK FOR AT A STUDENT-LED CONFERENCE?
Students will take the lead as they introduce their parents, open with prayer, share examples of their academic progress and learning goals. Teachers will listen and serve as facilitators. Parents follow their student’s lead, listen intently, encourage explanations and provide positive feedback and support.
