Newsletter for the week of October 22nd

Memory work:  None this week

October 22, 2018

Dear Parents,
Thanks to the parents who organized our wonderful harvest party last Friday.  The children had a wonderful time with crafts, games and snacks. We do love to party!
This is a very different week schedule-wise.  We have class for full days through Wednesday. Our student-led/parent-teacher conferences begin Thursday afternoon, continue into Thursday evening and then conclude on Friday morning. Mrs. Klug and I are looking forward to meeting with your second grader and each of you for these conferences. Your second grader has been preparing for this event. Please be sure to bring along all of your questions, comments and concerns AND of course, your second grade student. Your conference time was in your child’s report card.  There is a master copy posted by our classroom door.  If you need to make a change, please jot a note to me or feel free to call me.
Our annual Book Fair will be held this week.  Our class will “shop” tomorrow morning.  A flyer came home last week listing some of the books that will be for sale.  If you would like for your child to purchase any books, you may send in cash or a check (payable to CCLS) with your child tomorrow.  If you send a check, be sure to let us know a limit for the check.  The book fair will be open through Thursday at noon.  Tuesday evening is the Candy Corn Festival (for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students) from 6-7:30 and the book fair will be open at that time. Wednesday morning, the 24th, is breakfast with a buddy and the Book Fair will be open that morning beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Your child is invited to bring an adult with them to enjoy a breakfast treat and to shop at the book fair.
In math, we will be moving on to the facts that equal 11.  This week we will work more with counting money (dimes and pennies) and do some line measuring.  Keep practicing those addition facts at home.  Also, it is time to fill the nickels and quarters container.  If you have not sent it back, please do so this week. Each child needs 10 nickels and 6 quarters to use during this year.  The coins will come back home in May.
Remember that school will be dismissed at 12:00 this Thursday. Be sure to send along a morning snack. Also, there is no school on Friday due to the conferences. (Kid Kare will be open Thursday from noon until six.  Be sure to register your child through the link with the email about Kid Kare that was sent last week.  The link was also included in The Charger newsletter last Friday.  There will not be Kid Kare on Friday.   Have a wonderful fall week! See you with your child on Thursday or Friday.

Yours in Christ,
Janet Leet
